Horrors! Birth Control!

Dear Lord …

I must admit that when Obama first announced the policy of requiring health insurers to cover birth control, and the initial outcry started, I had to wonder why he chose to stir up this hornets at this time.  But after the absolutely batshit response by the far right, I now view it as a masterful campaign strategy.  When you think about it, based on the economic state of the country this election should be a cakewalk for the GOP.  The sitting president always ends up owning the current state regardless of whether it is his fault or not.  But this time it is not even close to that.  First OWS has effectively shifted the narrative on the fiscal crisis, with an unintended complicity by the GOP as they told the average American, “we’ll screw you now, give tax breaks to businesses and the uber-wealthy and everything will be better … later.”  Secondly, the right has engaged in this social warfare against unions, abortion, gay marriage, and now contraception.  The second thing is totally turning off ‘independent’ voters in droves as the the far right is dominating the this conversation and coming off as completely batshit.  And while the economy may suck, and Obama may not be performing up to expectations, independents certainly don’t want don’t want some batty social idealouges running things.  It’s one thing when you try to get in someones wallet and a whole other when you try to get into their bedrooms.

some of the batty comments

Sarah Palin,

[Obama is] underestimating the wisdom of women. Because women understand there is access to preventative care and contraception out there, and we don’t need government to tell our employers that they must provide that for us.

huh? That doesn’t even make sense as a rebuttal

Truly, it is a war on our religious liberties and that violation of conscience that he would mandate that is un-American because it violates our First Amendment in our Constitution.

Actually no it doesn’t.  When religious organization chooses to enter the business realm they must obey those rules.  If you don’t want a black person in your home – fine, you can do that (even tough it makes you an ASS).  Don’t want a black person in your restaurant – not fine.

Santorum,

“I am not a believer of birth control.  It goes down the line of being able to do whatever you want to do without having the responsibility that comes with that.”

ahh, so it is OK for you to impose your religious views on the rest of us.

And go to the recent Jon Stewart post here to hear the real batty responses. Hitler?!? seriously?  Yes you are freaking out independents enough that they will vote for Obama simply because “well at least he isn’t nutz”

Dick Of The Week

Ok, in the interest of full disclosure, before I start bashing away, I am employed by a university, in a research department where I work on research (duh) and help train the next generation of scientist and engineers.

Now with that out of the way, my dick of the week is …

RICK SANTORUM (R-delusionland)

There are many things that make him a dick, but his latest bit of dipshitism REALLY gets under my skin.  During a speech yesterday he chose to bash higher education and Obama for supporting higher education in the SOTU (here and here)

“It’s no wonder President Obama wants every kid to go college,” Santorum said Wednesday in Florida, according to CBS News. “The indoctrination that occurs in American universities is one of the keys to the left holding and maintaining power in America. And it is indoctrination. If it was the other way around, the ACLU would be out there making sure there wasn’t one penny of government dollars going to colleges and universities, right?”

Wha-wha-what ?!? Christ! No dipshit, colleges and universities do not indoctrinate students in left wing dogma,  they give students knowledge and teach them how to think critically.  Yes there are subjects where things can be seriously slanted left or right such as economics and philosophy, but a majority of topics such as math, physics, history don’t.  They’re just facts and principles.  There is nothing left wing about Newton’s equations of motion, or the fall of the Roman Empire.  I think what Rick really means is that colleges and universities encourage people to think, and if people think for themselves they may see through the bullshit and outright lies you and your brethren tell.

Now with religion, in particular the Judea-Christian and Islam variety, we have textbook examples of indoctrination.  Methinks you are looking in a mirror … but continue …

Santorum said that if higher-education institutions “taught Judeo-Christian principles,” “they would be stripped of every dollar.”

“If they teach radical secular ideology, they get all the government support that they can possibly give them,” Santorum continued. “Because, you know, 62 percent of children who enter college with a faith conviction leave without it.”

ahhh … So, the evil left wing cabal of professors is trying to convert Christians to secularism … I see.  But all would be okay if they taught Christian principles.  I wonder how the Jews, Muslims, Buhddists, etc would feel about that.  And where do you get this 62% figure from?  Out of your ass most likely (oh, Dan Savage …)  Sorry buddy, I have been in and around colleges and universities for 20+ years now and I have seen very few people ‘lose’ their faith, maybe the pick up of Buddhism or Hinduism here and there, but that is about it.  Maybe Rick, those people weren’t so faithful to begin with, maybe those kids were just going to church and saying those prayers as duties, much like taking out the trash or washing the dishes, and when away at college where they don’t HAVE to do them anymore … they choose not to.  Not because some evil prof as lured them away, but because, well, maybe they just weren’t that into it in the first place.

“I’ll bet you there are people in this room who give money to colleges and universities who are undermining the very principles of our country every single day by indoctrinating kids with left-wing ideology,” he said. “And you continue to give to these colleges and universities. Let me have a suggestion: Stop it.”

That’s right Rick! Let’s starve our universities!  Pull your kids outta college folks!  That’s right, let’s turn our country into a third world backwater.  You jackass, where to you think people are going to get the skills to compete on the world stage?  College homeschooling?

But on the flip side it would sure help with your global warming denialism – tax breaks to the rich will save us –  there is infinite oil – meme … if people are too dumb to look up or consider the facts for themselves there’d be no arguing with ya. Dick ….
