More Dirty Hippys

Although I spent some time looking through the photos, and I just can’t quite come up with anybody there that would qualify as dirty or a hippy.

All I see are regular people that want to get a point across.
Guess we’ll have to arrest them anyway. Just pretend they’re dirty hippys.
400k in NYC march yesterday. Making their point.
The lack of media coverage speaks volumes, unfortunately.

John Oliver on the climate change debate

Explains what a “fact” really means,… with a little help from Bill Nye the Science Guy and some friends.

I’m more and more amazed

The stupidity just keeps coming.

It seems endless.

I suppose murder is good for the economy, … it makes work for cops, detectives, forensic specialists, funeral directors, and many more.

A boon.

It’s dirty work, but …

Pipeline builder says oil spills can be good for the economy

Cleaning up the Kalmazoo River
Mic Stolz
Kinder Morgan’s idea of job creation.

Kinder Morgan wants to spend $5.4 billion tripling the capacity of an oil pipeline between the tar sands of Alberta and the Vancouver, B.C., area. Yes, the company acknowledges, there’s always the chance of a “large pipeline spill.” But it says the “probability” of such an accident is “low.” And anyway, if a spill does happen, it could be an economic boon.

“Spill response and cleanup” after oil pipeline ruptures, such as the emergency operations near Kalamazoo, Mich., in 2010 and in the Arkansas community of Mayflower last year, create “business and employment opportunities for affected communities, regions, and cleanup service providers,” the company argues.

Those aren’t the outrageous comments of a company executive shooting off his mouth while a reporter happened to be neaby. Those are quotes taken from an official document provided to the Canadian government in support of the company’s efforts to expand its pipeline.

It’s a bit like claiming cancer caused by nuclear accidents can be great because it provides work for oncologists. Here’s more from The Vancouver Sun:

Cliven Bundy raises the public awareness

Thanks, Clive old boy,…. you’ve really helped the cause.

Just not the one you intended.

Ripped off unapologetically from   at  http://www.balloon-juice.com/   –  (please give a visit)

I don’t think she’ll mind.

This, – (although not a “real” craigslist thing),  –  says it all about our conservative buddies and the “heroes” they choose.

As seen on Craigslist:

It does bother me though that they keep finding these types.

They’re not uncommon. ……….. Very, very troubling.

What a Great Conversation

And a solid, solid woman.

Sarah Slamen.

Hope there are a lot more of these types out there. The GOP will be in deep sh@t.

The old white guy in control situation won’t last long.

Josh Fox – Gasland 2

You can be sure of one thing.

The cost will always be more, both environmentally and for end use, than the people producing it will want you to know.

Wind and solar keep making great strides, but there’s a long way to go.

So, stay informed. There’ll be plenty of misinformation to weed through.

Josh Fox’s Gasland Part II Faces Aggressive Oil and Gas Public Relations Campaign

The oil and gas industry analyzed every word in the film, looking to “debunk” the statements made by Fox in the documentary. In a widely-ciculated white paper, the industry accused the filmmaker of skewing the facts.

Mr. Fox and others responded directly to that white paper by issuing a 39 page point-by-point response.

How do you deal with the new normal?

I believe that Walter Kirn of the New Republic wants you to think a little.

Getting Over It

BY WALTER KIRN

Just last Friday, walking down the street, I saw a handmade sign above a dumpster warning passersby not to deposit their trash there. “Smile. You’re on camera,” said the sign. A few minutes later, reading on my phone, I came across a comment on a story about the NSA that quoted a computer firm executive as telling a crowd at a lecture he was giving, “You have no privacy. Get over it.” Then, about twenty minutes after that, I went to send an e-mail on my computer and a little window popped up informing me that Safari, my Web browser, wanted “to access” my stored personal information. Allow request or deny request? There were buttons for both options. I pressed Deny. The window popped up again. Allow or Deny? I pressed Deny.

The window popped up again.

 I pressed Allow.

I decided to smile. I decided to get over it.

All of this happened just a couple of days ago, but already I feel different, like a new person in a new world. I feel mature, realistic, reconciled. I feel less isolated and less anxious. I plan, from now on, to go about things differently and acknowledge the new order.

I will keep my opinions to myself online.

I will keep my opinions to myself when speaking to anyone who goes online or wspeaks to anyone who goes online.

I will speak on the phone only to people who keep their opinions to themselves, and hang up on them if they don’t.

I will buy nothing online or with a credit card or in a store that keeps electronic records of its sales or in a store that uses security cameras that I am not absolutely proud to own, and absolutely happy for everyone to know I own.

I will pay my taxes to the last penny, and then I will pay a penny more, just to be safe.

I will donate to good causes, conspicuously.

I will donate to both major political parties, conspicuously.

I will, at least once day a day, be it online or on the phone or in the company of someone who goes online or speaks on the phone, condemn our enemies and support our leaders.

I will obey the laws, all the laws, even the dumb ones, even the ones that seem unenforceable, and I will associate only with those who also obey them.

I will smile even when I feel troubled, and when I notice others acting troubled, I will tell them to smile, to get over it.

I will always, when given the option, push Allow.

I will hide nothing.

But I will conceal everything.

I will be a good American.

Not Surprised

Again,….. and I repeat,….. Priorities, Priorities, Priorities

Exxon Shareholders Don’t Want To Add Gays To Anti-Discrimination Rules Or Cut Emissions, Either

DAVID KOENIG May 29, 2013, 2:41 PM

DALLAS (AP) — The CEO of Exxon Mobil Corp. says there’s no quick replacement for oil, and sharply cutting oil’s use to reduce greenhouse gas emissions would make it harder to lift 2 billion people out of poverty.

“What good is it to save the planet if humanity suffers?” CEO Rex Tillerson said at the oil giant’s annual meeting Wednesday.

 ——————————

  HUH??!!             And this……..

Exxon Mobil Corp. is coming off its second-biggest profit ever, having earned $44.9 billion in 2012.

Yes…. times are tough. What use saving the planet.??

Better Days

I believe the republicans have a point.

I think we need to get back to the time when a leisurely boat trip down a scenic river could be a great way to spend a day.

The Cuyahoga River was once one of the most polluted rivers in the United States as represented by the multitude of times it has caught fire, a recorded number of thirteen starting in 1868.  The most potent blaze occurred in 1952 which caused over $1.3 million in damages however, the most fatal fire happened in 1912 with a documented five deaths.  The 1969 fire, which did not incur maximum damages or fatally wound any citizen, was the most covered incident occuring on the river.  This was in part because of the developing precedence that sanitation held over industrial actions; the United States was becoming more eco-aware.  Also, due to the shift from industry to technology, waste dumping to recycling Time Magazine produced an article about the incident.  This brought mass amount of attention to the Cleveland area and added pressure for hygienic regulation

This type of thing will at least keep us moving in the right direction.
